A Clean Paint Surface: If you are Lucky, all your internal walls will need is a good healthy bath. Washing your walls with diluted sugar water (A caustic solution available from DIY stores) will remove grease and stubborn stains from your walls before you apply any paint. Even hand prints leave grease behind on your walls and if you don’t remove them prior to painting then you will find either dark marks or flaky paint sections on your newly painted wall.

Knocks and small holes: You don’t need to call a plasterer to fix small plaster chips or screw holes in your walls. Most minor damage to internal walls is usually caused by drilling the walls to hang pictures, shelves or mirrors. To repair these you will first need to remove any screws that are in the wall. Screws are usually mounted in a rawl plug, these are small plastic bushes that expand into the wall as the screw is inserted, providing a tight secure fit preventing the screw from falling out. Before you can repair these holes you need to remove the rawl plug from the wall. Partially turn the screw 2/3 of the way into the rawl plug, then, using a pair of grips, pluck the screw out of the wall. It should come out with the rawl plug attached.
